i was installed at f drive and then i lock that drive. no i cant open that drive or run the app. what should i do???

Answer by Akash Shah

If you cannot open the locked drive or run the app, you should try restarting your computer and then attempting to access the drive again. If that doesn't work, you might need to uninstall and reinstall the Folder Lock program to resolve any issues. Make sure to follow the instructions provided by the program's documentation or support team.

I added items and encrypted them, then closed the application. When I open Folder Lock with password it opens, but does not show my files. How should I do it?

To see your files, open Folder Lock and enter your password, then from the interface of the software, select the folder or files that are hidden or locked. Right click them and select UNHIDE. Now the files will be shown on their original location. This is the only way to unlock and unhide the files on a computer with Folder Lock installed.

I have locked some files using Folder Lock but now the unlock password does not work anymore. How could I get back my hidden files?

Please check the lock, which you have applied. Is it Master Password, if so, then you might need to check the same. However, please find the links which will help you understand how to set this unlocking easy.

What if you forget a password? Is there another option, such as a registration key or numeric code to type in the Password box in case a password is lost of forgotten? Now that is a good folder locking software, not this Folder Lock rubbish. I forgot my password after a log absence and I am unable to open the 'Safe'. Goodbye to all my important files.

There are in my opinion heaps of 'Cons'. Just the password is not good enough if you stand a fair chance of losing or forgetting it. These failsafe encryption software should come either with an additional registration key or numerical code to use (typed in the password box) in case of lost password.

Now, that is some software with a difference, but is there such software? I recall using a program software a few years ago that had 2 text boxes, the first was for the Pawword, the second was for an additional password like numeric and alphabetic code in case of lost password. This way, if the password is lost, the code can be typed in the lower box. Once the code was applied and the program opened, the software requested that a new password be made and the numeric code returned to back to a safe location for future use in case, after a long time without using the program, the password may be forgotten again. This is what I would call a failsafe software or program, unlike Folder Lock where hundreds of users end up, or are stuck without password and lost files. I am one of them, my files and folders lost forever.

I am truly sorry for this inconvenience, but let me explain why it works like this. Imagine that you have some documents of great importance and you want them secured with an application (e.g. FolderLock) and someone manages to copy those directories and files. Your above situation fits perfectly. No matter what you do, you can't access those folders and files if you don't have the password. This isn't something bad from the developers, it's a security enhanced way of protecting your files. Indeed, an option like password forget or recovery is good, but then again, these can be exploited. I recommend that the next time when you use an application like this you print or type the passwords or security questions somewhere safe just for times like these when you forget the password.

The answer to this problem is easy and makes software like folder lock a waste of money. If you run software called spacemonger /select drive where file was hidden /scan/file will now be shown/right click select copt to/copy and all files are now exposed and in tact. SIMPLES ...PJ

I'm writing the password, but Folder Lock is not opening. What can I do?

P
Answer by Pete Clapp

In order to fix the issue, I suggest you uninstall the utility and then install it again. If the password is still not working, access Control Panel > Appearance > Folder Options, click the View tab, check the Show hidden files, folders, and drives box and click OK. In the Search programs and files field from the Start menu type win_mpwd_sys.dat and delete all the displayed files in order to be able to open the files locked with Folder Lock. After that, remove the program from your computer, run CCleaner and download and install the latest version of the software. If you still have problems, you need to contact the developers.

I have locked some files using Folder Lock, but after I close the application, I can't open it without the master password. I have the Images folder saved in local (D:) drive and I have locked this directory with Folder Lock. When I go to (D:) drive, I can see the folder, but I can't find my files. Can you help?

P
Answer by Pete Clapp

Firstly, I suggest you try opening the application using the serial number received when you purchased it. Type the number in the password field and open the software. If it doesn't work, navigate to Start > Control Panel > Appearance > Folder Options, click the View tab, check the Show hidden files, folders, and drives box and click OK. After that, delete the win_mpwd_sys.dat file from:

(C:) > Program data;
(C:) > Users > Vortex > AppData > Local;
(C:) > Windows > SysWOW64.

Note: If you're using a 32bit computer, instead of Windows > SysWOW64, you can find the win_mpwd_sys.dat file in the Windows folder. If you still have issues, use the contact form from the official web page to get in touch with the developer.

If you do this, you will lose the contents of the folder because when it's installed and locked, the application generates a unique ID and if you uninstall the program, that unique ID will be lost. Even if you re-install the software, you will not be able to restore its content.

To decrypt the folder(s)/file(s), start the application and the items will be visible in the program's interface. Select the folder and press Unlock then enter the password. The files will be decrypted and visible in case you've assigned them to be hidden.
